August 2013

I was just wondering if anyone knows if edd actually checks the work search records of people on an extension and how they go about it? Thanks

I am currently on an Alternate Base Period claim that is 14 weeks total. It will exhaust on 09/07/13. Will I be eligible for a Tier 1 Extension if my original claim was for only 14 weeks? I haven’t found any information about eligibility for the Tiers regarding this matter. Thanks

On Aug 19, I received the notice of eligibility for the deferred new claim payment program since my new claim award is less than the previous and I still have funds left which expired on 11/12. I was re-employed back on 9/12 thru 12/14/12. Filed a claim in January but was awarded $0-didnt appeal thinking I will be getting a job soon or within a 2-3mos the most after I left but unfortunately I didn’t expect how hard it is now to land a job. 8 1/2mos without income and UI benefits had depleted all my resources so I went to file for CALworks on Aug 2 which then I was told by my caseworker to file again for UI benefits. I was happy to receive the letter and that no need to call EDD -just need to continue filing claim.I also received on the same the day notice of unemployment insurance award for the new claim which will take place after I used up all the funds from my original claim or by Dec 28,2013 whichever comes first. I certified/filed my claim thru webcert submitted on 8/25 then status updated to issued on 8/27 but no payment
ever was deposited into my EDD card nor issued when I called the automated service.

I tried several times since Wed to contact EDD all through their office hrs but no luck so finally sent email to ASK EDD late Thurs night. Received a response yesterday pm that my pmts are suspended or will cont to be suspended until after the approval of my eligibility to be determined after my phone interview schedule on 9-11-13. I finally received the notification for UI benefits eligibility interview yesterday dated Aug 28.

I am confused on how they can send me the award letter and notice of eligibility for the deferred new claim payment form then withhold payments and need to have the phone interview after for eligibility determination? Please explain and let me understand the process because I feel that my claim was process backward.

Look at the EDD Website !! Read the EDD Annual labor day report (PDF 3 pages) you will see thousands of positions opening up !!! Now is the time to go out and land a job !! No more self-pity and EDD bashing !!

Isabella or Confused, I would very much appreciate your expertise in this matter. My BYE is on 8/31/13, so I was expecting to receive a claim form for only one week because of the one week waiting period that I had at the beginning of the claim. Today I received a claim form for two weeks, the week ending 8/31/13, and the week ending 9/7/13. The claim form indicates that my claim expires on 8/31/13. I am supposed to complete the claim form for both weeks on 9/8/13. It also states that my claim balance after the last payment is $981.00, which is the correct amount left in my Tier 2 benefit period. Why did I not receive a claim form for the final week of my BYE period? Thank you for your time in helping me to understand this process.

FIRST OFF ISABELLA … THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HELPFUL ADVICE!!!!

YOU ARE A SAINT. HAD YOU NOT RESPONDED TO ME I WOULD PROBABLY STILL BE STUCK HERE WITH MY THUMB IN MYYY …$*#*#@

to share my story with others. I was dealing with 3 seperate pending issues at the same time.

One was to that I received a letter from EDD stating they wanted a phone interview due to a mismatch in earnings from the 4th quarter of 2012

the 2nd. I was mailed an AFFIDAVIT OF WAGES on Monday due to my yearly claim being OVER … coincidentally this MONTH.

3rd. Me not receieving any continued claim forms anymore .. .and the best answer I could get was because of a ”PENDING DECISION FROM MY INTERVIEW”

so after a bunch of blank responses from EDD via e-mail. I finally took Isabellas advice and called with the 5-1-1-0 trick .. (WHICH ABSOLEUTLY WORKS)!!! and spoke to representative within 5 minutes.

I explained to her all of the drama I was having… she then FOWARDED ME TO THE EXACT PERSON I INTERVIEWED WITH TO SPEAK TO HIM. Which was awesome and more than what I expected. For some answers.

HE THEN CHECKS ALL THEIR POTENTIAL ISSUES THEY WERE HAVING WITH ME AND says

“NOTHING IS WRONG, AND MY MONEY THAT THEY OWE SHOULD BE ON MY CARD BY TOMORROW” AND THAT “ALL OF MY CONTINUED CLAIMS THAT I MISSED DURING THE DURATION WILL BE SENT TO ME TO FILL OUT SO I CAN RECIEVE MY BENEFITS”

THE guy also advocated for me against my current employer whom I didn’t even think I was eligible to pull funds from since I’m currently employed but am ON CALL. they didn’t want to pay into my new claim because I’m on call but he actually argued on my behalf and petitioned them and so now that money is being added to my new claim.

CAN’T TELL YOU HOW HAPPY I WAS.

I HAVEN’T RECIEVED A PENNY FOR THE WHOLE MONTH OF AUGUST.

ANYWAYS I JUST WANT TO THANK ISABELLA AND ANSWER ANYONE’S QUESTIONS IF THEY’RE HAVING A SIMILAR SITUATION SO I CAN HELP THEM OUT WITH A LITTLE BIT OF ADVICE.

I was checking out webcert this morning (paranoid habit) ans saw this so I thought I’d pass it along.

Welcome to the EDD Web-Cert

Important Message: In observance of Labor Day, the EDD will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2013 and will reopen on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Please be aware that holidays usually add 1-2 business days to process payments and applications for benefits.  In addition, in order to minimize any impact on our services, the EDD will take advantage of this holiday office closure for further work on new online UI services coming this fall.

I expected the holiday delay but the website updates have me nervous. We all remember what happened the last time they updated the website so be prepared.
