I’d highly recommend, if you haven’t already done so, reading as much as you can and watching relevant YouTube videos in preparation for your EDD appeal in court with the ALJ (Administrative Law Judge).

Frankly, I didn’t know that “outside” resources existed. I was only looking at all the info provided on the EDD website, but if you Google articles and videos, you’re in for a treat.

For example, there are many attorneys who provide articles either on their websites or in legal discussion forums and they offer their 2 cents on what they’ve seen and experienced in their cases.

Also, the YouTube videos show clips of “what to expect during a hearing.” There are also testimonials that people have taped. Most of these I found useless because they go into complaining rather than focusing on actual observations and tips they noticed in their hearings.

Either way, the best thing you can do for yourself is to be completely honest (but objective) and prepare yourself with online resources.

At the very minimum, please keep in mind the very basics prior to the hearing, like:

– Arrive to your hearing 15-30 min early.
– Address the ALJ as “Your Honor”, “Judge”, or “Ms./Mr. _____”
– Bring your facts to the table. This is not the time to whine and moan like a victim, even if you were absolutely abused and mistreated in your previous job.
– Don’t freak yourself out. Easier said than done, but really. If you know you are in the right and you have the evidence and facts to back it up, you will make it.

Good luck.

I have been off of work since 4/28/15 and applied for SDI, provided the doctors cert., received a letter my my HR Company stating that I am eligible for FMLA/CFRA leave and a letter from SDI on 5/19/15 stating what my disability pay would be. I have no money left and have been waiting for my card so I can pay my bills on the 1st, but received a letter today stating that I am not eligible for daily payments from 4/28/15 to 12/31/99 because my employer has continued my full pay. I called HR and they confirmed that they did not report that I have continued to receive full pay. Now I have to appeal and wait another 7-10 days?! Does anyone know how I can expedite this? I can’t go another few weeks without money or paying my bills and rent, let alone eat or have gas for my car.

Hi! I just checked my SDI online page and the Payment and Determination History updated just today.

So my question is… If there is now a row that reads “Qualification” under the “Actions Taken” column and there is a dollar amount listed under the “Paid”, column, does that mean I’ve been approved to receive SDI benefits? I would assume so based on what I’m seeing, but I never got an e-mail from the EDD office to make it official or otherwise. I also have yet to receive any kid of EDD debit card? When does that come?

Thank you!

Hello all~

I’m brand new to UI and I think I’ve done everything correctly thus far – as I have gotten my first week of payment earlier this week!

But the question I had was:
I’m filling out the certification for the following two weeks. The 1st week I indeed worked from home as an indie contractor (not yet paid) while the 2nd week I did not work.

The work I did was for a specific individual (not a company). Do I list the individual as the Employer?
And does listing the person somehow lead to him getting contact by EDD for any reason?

The second question is mainly the one I’m curious about since I feel as though I will continue to do some indie work in the coming weeks (not consecutively but here and there).
If I were to open a claim down the road, I would not list this indie work to begin with… so i thought maybe there would be no reason this “employer” would be contacted.

Thank you for your help!

cheers
