August 2015

I am not on unemployment, however, I wanted to share my experience because it has probably happened to others as well. When I was unemployed I applied at many McD’s and even got 2 interviews at the same location with the same lady, I was rejected twice, I am over 50 but under 60, if you notice very few people at that company are that age in the window service. I talked to several managers in the area and they all said just keep reapplying. To no avail. I had been applying for many months to every place I felt qualified whether secretarial or warehouse, registered with agencies, filled out all their forms, all to no avail. I even called my former agency on a monthly basis and was told the recruiter has left and that since he used me and some other temps on several longterm assignments that they felt the new recruiters should use new people, can you believe that? Even though the other person in my group also was told the same thing and used to be called by this recruiter as well. When we were on the job, he and I were told whatever we completed wasn’t right or some lame excuse, one lady even said this is all wrong and I knew my entries were ok, well it turned out the year at the top was from a year I had never even been there, she was furious. So temps get this a lot. Now to be told by the agency sorry, we need to use new people and the recruiter is no longer there so now we are not called or told we are not qualified for the positions we held before at even some of the same companies, that we don’t “fit” that other candidates meet their needs more closely. What a bunch of bunk. Then I applied at a school, they checked one reference, that was fine, then they called my college and this hiring person for the school said she was told that my professor didn’t work there like I was a liar, she put this in the notes so the offer was rescinded, she never called my present employer which was listed on the application and the hiring manager knew this

I have spoken with the CA EDD on multiple occasions and found every one of the employees I have spoken with to be unbelievably rude. Why is this acceptable behavior for government employees? Why are they allowed to be consistently aweful? Not only did they not listen to a word I said, I was consistently talked over and told rude things as CA EDD employees interrupted me on multiple occasions, mostly without letting me finish my sentence. I was hung up on more then one occasion and am incensed that they are not reprimanded and allowed to keep they’re employment! The economy would cease to a standstill if all businesses operated the way the California Unemployment office does and while they should be setting an example they are making a mockery of the system and contributing to the decline of this country. Shame on the CA EDD!

Tele cert down

August 30, 2015

in Pissed!

I’ve been trying all morning to certify via phone but IVR just keeps saying the tele cert is down. Anyone else having this issue

i filed my claim in April, which just re-opened the existing claim I had started the year before. In July, my claim rolled over to a new claim with a higher weekly benefit amount (yay!) and I had a waiting period week then.

Fast forward to August. I started working part time again. Certified for weeks A and B using UI Online. Week B I worked too much and had 0 benefit. Last week I received my paper claim form in the mail, along with another letter that stated that I had filed a new claim. I did not file a new claim, my current claim goes until July 2016 and I have $6000 left on it. Today, I certified for weeks C and D. UI Online is showing that week C is a waiting period and I get no benefits. I worked less than 10 hours that week, and really needed that money. I can’t even afford to feed my dog, she’s been eating beans and leftovers for the past few days. I scrounged for loose change just to buy gas to get to work and am praying that I don’t run out of gas on the freeway again today, I can’t even call AAA because my phone is shut off.

I am pretty familiar with the ins and outs of EDD, and I can’t figure out why this is happening. I submitted a question via Ask EDD (which isn’t easy anymore) and will post an update once I receive a response. Has this happened to anyone else? I hope it’s a system glitch and we can correct it, but if not, I want to know why so I can plan for it if it’s going to happen again.

No payment

in Where's my Money!?

Telecert on Sunday morning and it’s now Wednesday night and no payment… Anyone else having payment issues?

I know it’s a little off topic, but I had a job interview today and even though it’s rather entry level and half my former executive salary, it felt damned good to meet some nice interviewers and get some speaking experience. I hope you all have some good opportunities come up. I was told I would hear back within 2 weeks for a possible 2nd round of interviews! Praise the Lord!

Okay, this is my first ever time dealing with unemployment. I was laid off from my job on July 13th, however the week prior to this I was on PTO from work, and hadn’t actually been at work since July 6th. I was paid a severance pay for that week from July 13th- July 17th. I filed my claim and was told about the one week wait period, (seemed redundant but whatever fine). EDD then set my start date for my claim as July 26th (not sure how they counted this exactly unless they are using business days M-F but then they started my claim beginning on a Sunday?). But regardless of that, okay so it starts on July 26th it is then. I Waited two more weeks to do my phone interview, and since then have received and completed 2 claim forms (totaling 4 weeks of payments). The dates on the claims forms had the time periods correlating with the claim start date. ( 1st claim July 27th- August 8th, and 2nd claim August 9th -August 22nd). As of today August 25th, I still haven’t been paid, although yesterday my claim was finally approved. Then out of nowhere today, I get a online message from them saying that a week I had already certified benefits for is a waiting period, and will be paid $0. So originally they said I would be paid July 27th- August 8th, now I’m not getting paid July 27th- August 2nd as it’s a waiting period. But will apparently be getting paid August 3rd- onwards.

My question, since I was laid off July 13th, paid severance pay from July 13th- July 17th, then my wait period July 18th- July 26th, how is it my wait period extending now to August 3rd? So 7/18- 8/3 is my 1 week wait period? (Cause that’s way more than a week by my count).

Also how are the dates calculated? (Business days, or based off a 7 day, or is it just a moron literally throws darts at a calendar and that’s how they determine the dates, because I’ve tried to look at this all and I’m yet to detect any patterns or logic to their findings).

And if they did indeed fuck up what can I do?
