Higher Claims for January
Jan.27, 2012
I just got off the phone with my district assemblyman's office. They were checking to see if I received my money.
The rep did some research and she said this month there has been an increase in unemployment claims so they are seriously backed up. More people are becoming laid off and I guess January was hit pretty hard.
I wonder if California will experience a major mass exodus if the rate remains stagnant for the next few years.

thanks for the info. that gives me a tiny bit of hope that my claim form is sitting in some pile and will hopefully get scanned in time for me to pay my rent:) thanks!

That makes sense. After the holidays, retailers tend to lay off the seasonal workers.
I’m not trying to be negative, but I think things will remain bad given the state budget crisis and how Governor Brown is trying to slash social services to children and the elderly.
It’s quite horrible! I’m taking a vocational training course online and there are so many former professionals (real estate, accounting, IT, social sciences) in my classes.

Thank you so much for your help. I put a continued claim last week and still no payment. I am completely broke waiting by my computer. This sux. I want to call and complain to Jerry Brown!

@Ryan – Call your local district assemblyman’s office. I called various Sacramento numbers and e-mailed eddlegislativeoffice@edd.gov.
In your city, the district office has someone that handles complaints/concerns about EDD. That’s what I had to do and they have been VERY helpful. I finally received my December payment.

@Anonymous – I bet a lot of former professionals are in your class. My parents keep telling me if I can’t find anything out here, I should move back East and stay with them. The problem is that the market sucks just as bad as Cali.

I did call and talk to the secretary she is checking on things for me. Nice to talk to a real person!
