EDD Tier IV (16 wks) – New Workaround
As some of you know, ability to access 16 weeks Tier IV was restricted to those who exhausted Tier III for the two weeks ending 5/19 and 5/27.
Today I read on another forum, CA has posted on its website, notifying Tier IV claimants that if they cancel their Tier IV claims now, even though they are receiving benefits, and reopen claim on 5/13, they will be deemed eligible for 16 weeks Tier IV. Claimant would be without benefits for two weeks, but then would have the advantage of an additional 10 weeks to compensate for the loss of Fed-Ed.
I think it's absolutely great that CA as created this workaround, but I find no announcement on their website, although this was posted on another forum. This workaround is contrary to specific BLS Directives on implementation of augmented Tier IV.
Because, I can find no general announcement on the website, I am wondering if the CA workaround is still valid.
Would this message appear online only to Tier III and IV claimants and not as general announcement?
It's pretty darn significant, imo, given the specific BLS guidelines. I would like to think other states could follow suit. Current guidelines for implementation of augmented Tier IV excludes just about everyone and certainly doesn't help those reaching the end of Tier IV.
So my Q is, is this still a valid option for CA Tier III and IV recipients?
Thanks.
